I got my son his first HO scale train set for his 7th birthday this year, and it re-ignited my passion for trains.

I'm in the process of planning an either HO scale or N scale layout of my own, which will be based on the Coos Bay Rail Line here in Oregon, and will give me an interesting layout, including a 5 track yard section, a swing bridge and the Oregon Dunes in the NW corner, as well as Coos Bay itself in the middle.

Dave will love you then; he is nothing short of a train fanatic. He is a Fairbanks Morse junkie and manages a few train groups on Yahoo.

Dylan (age 6) loves Thomas and so far he hasn't shown much interest in regular trains, just Thomas!!!!

My son started with Thomas, but when I started getting "Road History" videos for him - Santa Fe, Alaska, Southern Pacific, Union Pacific, Burlington Northern, etc...the Thomas thing sort of fell by the wayside in favor of the real trains.

Just a couple weeks ago I went to my folks place and dug out my old set, it was an HO scale UP freight. Brought it home and gave the cars to the boy. I would have given him the engine too, but after nearly 20 years in the box, it decided it didn't want to run anymore, so it's taken up residence on my bookshelf.
